SimpleKeys overview
SimpleKeys is a complete rewrite of the popular f-key shortcut program. Now in addition to programing your function keys, SimpleKeys allows you to:
- Execute an action with any key combination
- Now types as fast as the recieving application can accept keystrokes
- Create Macros by combining multiple actions under a single KeyStroke
- Import and Export Settings
- Supports drag and drop of shortcuts to and from the items list. This allows you to email a shortcut to a friend, or save it for later.
- Execute AppleScripts on the files selected in the finder or using the text on the clipboard.
- Supports all special accented characters.
- Type text, including the date, the text on the clipboard, and any KeyCombo (e.g., Cmd-S to save a file)
- Paste text, including the date.
- Pause to wait for events to complete.
- Launch a file with the default application, or with a specific application.

According to the description, this is exactly what I have been looking for to replace an old F-Key utility that's no longer working properly for me using Mavericks 10.9.5.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to expand the downloaded .dmg file I get from this site or the developer site: https://www.pidog.com/SimpleKeys/
All I get is a small warning window saying:" the following disck images couldn't be opened"

SimpleKeys2.dmg no mountable file systems OK
I shall try contacting the developer at their home site for a possible solution.
As of right now, I'm forced to give it a five-star rating based on what I have. read.

I totally misinterpreted the "F-keys" matter here.
This was due to my own personal dream: using my MacBook "fn" key as a modifier (other than Cmd, Alt, Shift and Ctrl).
I know I can remap it to another modifier (at least I know i can turn "fn" into "Ctrl" key with DoubleCommand)... but this is just not what I'm seeking.
Is there a way to build shortcuts to the likes of, say, "Fn+5"?
I'd kill for that (or shell some bucks, more realistically).
And yeah... I'm pinned to the free, excellent Spark when it comes to keyboard shortcut managers.

Simple, easy, straight forward. Great little program. I did not want to spend a lot of time setting up typing text shortcuts. With SimpleKeys I was done in no time. I had a problem with an upgrade but the developer responded in less than 24 hours with a fix.

For $20 I'd recommend that people also look at Keyboard Maestro. It's a commercial program for the same price with many more features.

The previous review has no bearing on reality.
Maybe the person tried to use it for a few minutes, misunderstood some aspect, and gave up right away. I have used this app for a year ... it is a no brainer ... a snap to setup and edit ... and works flawlessly.
