DropDMG overview
DropDMG is the easiest way to create macOS disk images, which pack entire folders or disks into a single compressed file, either for transport across the Internet or simply for backup. They are Apple's preferred format for distributing Mac software. Disk images are also the only archive format whose contents you can directly access in the Finder. Just drag-and-drop a folder or file, and you're done. Or, you can drag an existing disk image or archive onto DropDMG to convert it to any of the other supported formats or to burn it to CD or DVD.
DropDMG supports advanced options such as signed, encrypted, and segmented disk images; WYSIWYG layout with background pictures and custom volume icons; and rich-text license agreements in multiple languages. There are many time-saving features, and it can also be automated via AppleScript, the command-line, and Automator.

MaxJobsto the esoteric preferences. This makes it possible to control how many operations DropDMG performs simultaneously. Normally, DropDMG will let you queue as many operations as you want and will execute two simultaneously. This balances the desire to quickly finish the first operation while still allowing other operations to complete. For example, encrypting a small document that you want to e-mail would not have to wait until backing up an entire hard drive had finished. You can also set DropDMG to execute only one operation at a time (e.g. to speed things up if you want to queue many operations that use the same slow hard drive) or three or more (e.g. if you are using fast SSD storage and your Mac has lots of processor cores). - Added
LayoutBackgroundFolderNameto the esoteric preferences. This makes it possible to customize the name of the invisible folder where DropDMG stores the background picture file. - Fixed a bug where DropDMG could incorrectly report a license agreement error when converting a disk image.

Trying v3.6 I had a "no mountable filesystem" error after converting a sparsebundle to LZFSE — though verifying the dmg with DropDMG gave an "ok". So I tried with 3.5.10 and it worked. Trying again with 3.6 it worked! Well, I don't know if it's a MacOS or DropDMG inconsistency, but it's always better to check your files after conversion. ;-)

A must have for anything about disk images!
The only app I could find that tells you to what algorithm a dmg was created — then you can decide if it's worth converting or not.
It plays seamlessly between the usual formats. Quite perfect!

I don't know what's going on, but it's having trouble with 10.12.1 macOS Sierra. Took a very long time to create a blank, encrypted DMG (that wouldn't eject until I forced it in Terminal) while Apple Disk Utility did it in seconds without any trouble. Same thing with a different computer as well.
