ZTerm X overview

Note: ZTerm X is no longer under development and the developer provides no support for it. This listing is only for people who have already purchased the license key

ZTerm X is a terminal emulation program for the Mac. In its day, many people used it to connect to Bulletin Board Systems and download files. Now we have the internet. It's still a useful utility for those systems that only offer dialup connections and for connecting to devices through a serial port, like many routers. For newer Macs that don't have a normal serial port, ZTerm can talk to ports on USB to serial adapters, through the appropriate driver software supplied with the adapter.

Zterm X site and download links are still up (last updated Jun 2012), but you can't purchase the app. Site sends you to Kagi payment system which is now defunct.

It would REALLY be nice if David Alverson -- the developer -- would seriously consider adding full telnet capabilities to ZTerm. I think if he did so, and gave it a more modern interface, he might suddenly see a huge surge in ZTerm's popularity, as in the old days of BBSing, because a lot of old school BBSers would go flocking to it again. For example, I set up my old school Macintosh-based BBS again for about the third time in April of 2015. Since then, I have acquired almost 250 registered users. So, there is still an interest in BBSing, even if it isn't that big. Some folks miss PC-ANSI, Macintosh-based BBSes. Hurrah! A trusty terminal emulation program to access serial ports is back. ZTerm is less expensive and easier to Update (when I upgrade my Mac) than MacWise, better handles the initialization my Radio-Teletype TNCs, and offers all the features I need. Now, I could use a Macro GUI (buttons at the bottom of the screen), although keyboard Macros do well.. Overall, ZTerm gets my nod of approval and endorsement .... hooray!
