Dock Star overview

Cluttered Desktop? Put everything in a dock! Dock Star is a macOS app that allows you to create multiple docks anywhere on your Desktop. Arrange, launch, and preview apps, files, Web links, images, and Shortcuts. Turn tedious folder and drive navigation into a single smooth dropdown experience. Visually organize project files by dragging and dropping and assigning colors.

Create auto-hiding panels of any size to control your smart home or lists to prioritize, preview, and manage files and Web links. Create framed images that can be displayed in any area of any display. Or just use it as a copy of the macOS dock on any side of your screen (even the top), with support for multiple rows and columns and indicators for open applications.

Customize the style and behavior of any dock to blend in with your environment and workflow. Use it to create large link and app launchers for kids, or palettes of common work tasks for your colleagues. Make your Mac work for you!

Value: 5.0

Dock Star makes the flow and promise of the MacOS experience come to life! Dock Star is essential and recommended as one of the most useful, quick, elegant and efficient apps for any Mac. Highly recommended. Do enjoy the free trial if you need any proof of its satisfying utility.

Ease of use: 5.0

File hierarchies perfect your organization and the docks ʻdrop downʻ navigation gives quick efficient direct visual access. This is how we want the MacOS to customize and function! I used ʻDrag Thingʻ for a decade and Dock Star is the improved successor in the same spirit and brilliance. Makes one wonder why this isnʻt endemic to the MacOS?

Features: 5.0

Where regular docks leave you off and the finder makes you engage the search process— Dock Star lets you set up a variety of docks (both stationary and hideable) with infinite near instant reach into your whole computer; programs, apps, folders, docs and images, etc.

This app is very nice and is getting closer to what DragThing used to be. For the most part, it is better than most other Dock replacements I have tried. A few features I would like to see in an update: 1. Hover effects for icons (Example: Having semi-transparent icons become solid on hover, or become slightly larger like the Dock, or change background color, etc.) 2. Window previews on icon hover for open apps (Example: hovering over Finder icon will show open Finder windows). 3. Icons for hidden apps could have reduced opacity to denote they are hidden. 4. Ability to add spacers instead of just leaving an empty cell (or adjust the width of an empty cell). 5. Calendar app should show the current date.

It does indeed look like a Drag Thing (sorely missed.. maybe no more) 'reincarnation' of sorts. Am only just beginning to use it and very pleasantly surprised, got so disappointed by so many of those apps since Drag Thing retired (no wonder people still have a soft spot for it).
