OPL FM Synth overview

The Yamaha OPL2 chip, introduced in 1985, defined video game soundtracks of the 80s and 90s. discoDSP OPL emulates the OPL2's FM and additive synthesis, including its unique percussion mode. With 16x oversampling for alias-free sound and over 2000 presets included, discoDSP OPL is perfect for classic game soundtracks, electronic music, or unique sounds, bringing the iconic OPL2 chip to your productions..

What’s new in version 2.5.1

  • Sound Quality Improvements:
    • New configurable oversampling system with support for 1x to 16x factors.
    • Default oversampling now set to 16x for best sound quality.
    • Enhanced audio quality with proper MIDI note compensation.
    • High-quality polyphase IIR filter for superior oversampling results.
    • Fixed channel configuration for improved stereo field accuracy.
  • Core Engine Updates:
    • Major framework update for improved performance and stability.
    • Modernized configuration system: migrated from 1x.txt to Config.xml.
    • Each oversampling octave now correctly shifts MIDI notes for accurate pitch.
    • Fixed critical oversampling initialization and processing bugs.
    • Refactored audio engine for proper sample rate handling.
  • User Interface & Configuration:
    • Optimized initial window size to 580p for better visibility.
    • Export function now includes current preset filename automatically.
    • New Config.xml location: Documents/discoDSP/OPL/Config.xml
    • Improved UI with better color scheme in standalone mode.
  • Bug Fixes & Stability:
    • Fixed issues with MIDI note handling during oversampling.
    • Addressed potential memory issues with large buffer sizes.
