For those of us still stuck with legacy Intel iMacs (27in late 2015 i7 32GB 2TB SSD) MacOS Monterey 12.6 continues to be almost unusable. This week (late July 23) Apple released 12.6.8 with a long list of critical app vs system memory clash resolutions. Symptoms before this are gradual/rapid slow down to crawl of system performance suggesting corruption of vital system memory areas, preferences, caches and finder vitals, particularly after using high-demand apps like Photoshop, Acrobat, Illustrator, Cinema4D and even MS Word working with long documents. Only short-term relief is to do a PRAM reset. This works for a day or so before the sickness takes hold again. Unfortunately, Apple still hasn't caught all of these bugs in 12.6.8 and the symptoms remain. Running Excel, Safari and Acrobat (only) today after a PRAM reset, all working great for about 4 hours, then the corruption takes over again. I appreciate that Apple wants to move on to bigger, better and vastly more expensive things, but some of us hard-working users aren't blessed with monetized social media channels and rely on hardware that used to be incredibly performant (for the time). It's incredibly frustrating to have a sickly i7 iMac sitting next to an i7 PC running Windows 10 that still gets regular updates and performs almost flawlessly...

Ventura is out today! Time to finally trust Monterey and upgrade to that from Big Sur. (Yes, that's how much I trust Apple's software QC these days).

As opposed to the lousy 12.4 update process (on my M1 MacBook Air), 12.5 was painless and did not leave behind a pile of update bugs. That's the way it should be.
