Minimalist overview

Minimalist is designed exclusively for Mac, iPhone and iPad to take advantage of the power, speed, and security built into Apple platforms. Apple's native app technologies are used to make Minimalist intuitive, fast, power efficient, and super secure.

Features
  • Sync via iCloud - Minimalist keeps all your data in sync across iPhone, iPad, and Mac using the iCloud account you already trust. Your devices sync ridiculously fast and your data remains secure and private, even from us.
  • Pay once with one-time purchase - Tired of subscriptions? Yeah, we get it. That's why Minimalist offers a One-Time Purchase along side an Annual Subscription for iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Choose the purchase option that's right for you!
  • Autofill without browser extensions - Minimalist supports Apple's AutoFill system already built-in to iPhone, iPad, and Mac. No browser extension required. Quickly and securely sign-in to websites and apps without revealing your browser content or browsing history.
  • Generate 2FA codes - Securely store and generate 2FA codes directly in Minimalist. No additional authenticator app required. All your login information lives in one place, available on all your devices.
  • Secure & private - Industry standard 256-bit encryption and end-to-end encrypted sync means your data remains secure and private, even from us.
  • Generate strong passwords - Easily generate strong, secure, unique passwords for all your online accounts. This way when one account gets compromised, the others remain safe.
  • Super fast unlock - Unlock Minimalist quickly and securely using Touch ID, Apple Watch, or your Master Password.
  • Shared family purchase - Share your Minimalist purchase with up to five family members via Apple's Family Sharing.
  • Made in canada - Minimalist is designed and developed by a devoted team in Canada with honesty and integrity at the core of everything we do.

Note: Minimalist is free to use forever with a 10 password limit. A One-Time Purchase or Annual Subscription removes the limit and enables Unlimited Passwords on all your devices including Mac, iPhone and iPad. Purchases can be shared with up to five family members via Apple's Family Sharing.

What’s new in version 3.2

  • We've completely re-build quick-actions and context-menus using Apple's latest APIs, allowing us to bring all quick-action and context-menu features to all platforms! Quick-actions are now performed with single tap or click, context-menus are now presented with a long-press or right-click, and quick-action-overlays are now shown on hover whenever a pointer device is present. As part of this change, we drastically reduced the amount of code required to present context-menus, meaning there are far less places for bugs to hide! Hurray!
  • Minimalist is now ready for the next generation of iOS, iPadOS, and macOS! We've updated text throughout the app to match current naming conventions, fixed bugs related to system changes, and updated context-menus to use Apple's latest APIs to ensure compatibility on all platforms. Special thanks to Iiro J. and Adam N. for bringing the context-menu issues to our attention.
  • You can now copy attachments from Minimalist to other locations using drag-and-drop! Wait... what?!? You mean we couldn't do that already? No, unfortunately when we originally added drag-and-drop support we couldn't figure out how to support attachments because they are still encrypted at the time the drag starts. We knew it was possible, but it wasn't immediately obvious to us how to do it. So we took some time, figured it out, and now, finally, dragging attachments works just as you would expect. Phew! That feels much better.
  • Importing and exporting has been improved as well. You can now import data from Elpass and export data to Apple's iCloud Keychain (Safari) CSV format! No more Minimalist lock-in! We've also fixed a number of bugs in the 1Password 1PUX importer which were causing the import to fail with the errors such as "the file couldn’t be saved because a file with the same name already exists", "encountedUnexpectedFieldValueKeys(keys: "")", and "sshKey expected to decode String but found a dictionary instead". Special thanks to Steve B., Nick, Rick McC., Chase M., Justin T., and 韓老師 for the suggestions and bug reports!
  • Apparently Minimalist has included a bug for many months where changes made to the "While Minimalist is open, automatically lock after a period of inactivity" setting did not take effect until after the app had been quit and re-opened. We didn't notice this in testing because we quit and re-open the app many times each day. Oops! We've corrected the problem and the changes now go into effect immediately. Special thanks to David W. for helping us discover the issue.
  • Finally, we've improved the Sync Status Indicator to show more information when a sync fails including what error caused the failure, and steps to resolve the issue where possible. Special thanks to Andrea E. for helping us with this one.

Password managers swim in a crowded pool. For many years I used 1Password but never with much pleasure, partly because although it was full-featured and did the job it seemed inflexible and the small type was hard to read. When they brought in a subscription I looked harder at the alternatives. after trying (and liking) Bitwarden for a while, I have settled on Minimalist which is at the other end of the spectrum from 1P: it is bare bones, very streamlined in operation (instant search/filtering, autosave) and has a beautiful clean GUI with a range of font sizes and infinitely flexible form fields. It has changed the way I work for the better: forget categorisation and marking of records, rely on lighting fast search and cleaning your list to optimise this. Browser auto-fill only works from Big Sur up (though it is seamless on iOS), but Safari’s own autofill takes care of most log-ins anyway. As a way of managing passwords and other sensitive data minimalist has the distinction of being the first app I actually enjoy using.

I've been using Minimalist for nearly a year, switching from 1Password, and absolutely love it. So much more streamlined and focused than 1P, Bitwarden, and the numerous other apps I tried. And I LOVE that I don't have to have a browser plugin for it to work.
