Free Memory overview
Free memory (was Boost & Memory) is an app to monitor memory and disk space usage and clean up your memory. It increases your Mac’s performance by cleaning cached memory, making more memory available for new apps. The application monitors RAM usage on your computer and frees up unused memory with one click. With Memory Cleaner, you can easily manage memory usage. An animated status icon in the menu bar shows you the percentage of memory being used, as well as memory cleaning being run.

Memory managers are an interesting concept. However with the memory management protocols built into the Mac they are not necessarily needed. If you do use one beware that they do take up RAM themselves and can significantly slowdown your drive. Case in point. When I ran Etrecheck it constantly reported my SSD as good, which is fine for a spin drive but is unacceptable in an SSD. When an SSD reports as good it could mean at worst that the drive could be real to malfunction, or that it is performing poorly. When I disabled the RA Manager the performance of the SSD instantly jumped to exceptional. No matter the app the same report. When I reactivated the RAM manager the SSD slowed as etrecheck reported. After trying another 9 or 10 times I finally realized that the drive slowed considerably and performance suffered. When disabled the performance jumped back to the original performance protocols.
