ScreenToLayers overview
ScreenToLayers allows to easily capture your screen as a layered PSD file. It is located in the menu bar to give you a quick access everywhere. You can also use the shortcut Cmd + Shift + 5 at any time. The application also includes an alternative interface to select only the component you need. Moreover, you are able to disable advanced settings as the shadow or the framing. The application is optimized for macOS El Capitan and later. Moreover, it supports Retina resolution and sandboxing. The application is free and open-source.

- ScreenToLayers has been completely reimagined to bring you a seamless experience with the latest macOS updates. Now powered by SwiftUI, the app is rebuilt from the ground up to meet macOS’s latest security standards, with full sandboxing and robust support for Apple’s new ScreencaptureKit. ScreenToLayers is also open source, available on GitHub for anyone to explore, contribute, and share in its development.
- In this update, some options have been retired either by necessity or by design, allowing us to streamline the app and focus on its core functionality. As a result, all user settings have been reset to default, so please take a moment to customize your preferences once again.
- We’re also introducing an optional “Buy a Coffee” feature, giving you a simple way to support ongoing development if you find ScreenToLayers helpful. With this update, we've expanded language options to make the app accessible to more users around the world. Thank you for using and supporting ScreenToLayers!
- Finally, due to Apple’s deprecation of the Carbon API, you may notice minor rendering differences in this version. While Carbon offered certain visual precision, we’re confident that these changes make ScreenToLayers a more modern, reliable tool.
