I just tried the free "lite" version and after installing and launching via the App Store it showed up in my menu bar with the developer's menubar icon that represents NOT CONNECTED. I have a screenshot of my Network Prefs showing the connection working while the Ethernet Staus menubar shows Ethernet not working. I opened my browser and Ethernet was indeed working. I rebooted to see if that would fix Ethernet Status. For a few seconds after the reboot the Ethernet Status menu bar showed Ethernet working and then the icon changed to show it not working. On top of that, my Ethernet actually did stop working - until I quit Ethernet Status and then it came back on. Must be a conflict with something but this is certainly not worth the bother since this app has been around awhile. BTW, I'm using 10.12.6 Sierra on a late model iMac 27".

This app is not expensive, but for $2.99 all you get is the bare bones. You have to pay $1.99 in order to get the full version. Other than that it gives you a few things not included in Network Preferences: Router model number, vendor name and it's MAC address. Perhaps more important, for troubleshooting purposes, it provides the Public IP address, though you cannot copy it by clicking on it. You'll have to copy it by hand. I updated to the "full version" but the number is still 1.3, not version 5. Nothing else copies either. So the developer is confused at best. So stay away unless you need these few extra details. Of course I can log into my router to get the same info, but it's a bit of a hassle.

No trial? $2.99 will not break the bank; however why not a trial copy prior to forking over money?
