SnippetsLab overview

SnippetsLab is a full-featured, easy-to-use snippets manager. It helps you to build your personal knowledge base and makes sure that you have easy access to them whenever you want.

Main Features
  • Stunning user interface with 13 fully customizable themes.
  • Syntax highlighting for over 440 languages.
  • Create nested folders, as well as Smart Groups and shortcuts.
  • Add notes & tags to a snippet.
  • Include multiple fragments in a single snippet (useful when one snippet logically consists of multiple separate "parts," such as a header and an implementation, or different solutions to one problem; every fragment under one snippet can have its own language and notes).
  • Multiple windows & pin individual window at the top of the screen.
  • Use advanced search filters (search by folder/tags/languages) to find your snippets instantly.
  • Use iCloud to synchronize your library across multiple devices.
  • Automatic code formatting (for supported languages only).
  • Export the library to JSON, XML or plain text files.
  • Use SnippetsLab Assistant to search, browse and create snippets right from the menu bar, with advanced keyboard navigation support.
  • Automatic backups for a peace of mind.
  • Support for printing, sharing, macOS Services, etc.
Markdown Support
  • Create markdown snippets.
  • Choose between editing, preview, or side-by-side viewing mode.
  • Accurate two-way scroll synchronization.
  • Syntax highlighting for the same set of over 440 supported languages.
  • Write and render LaTeX/MathJax formulas.
  • Quickly toggle format options and insert links, tables, footnotes, etc.
  • Fully customizable CSS themes.
Integrations
  • Sync: Customize the library location to use any 3rd-party file-based sync services (such as Dropbox or Google Drive)
  • GitHub Gist: Import from GitHub Gist & publish your snippets as gists. (Please note that two-way sync is not supported.)
  • Alfred Custom Search: Start searching from Alfred using the "snippetslab://search/{query}" URL scheme
  • Alfred Workflow: Search and view the results directly in Alfred, open them in SnippetsLab, copy to clipboard or paste to the frontmost app (Note: Alfred Powerpack is required to use the workflow)

What’s new in version 2.1

New features:
  • Insert and preview Mermaid diagrams in Markdown snippets
  • Automatically detect and set language when pasting text into the editor
  • Pin snippets to the top
  • Added an option to hide snippets in subfolders from the list view (access from Context Menu > Display Options)
  • Added more than 50 new languages
  • Import from Quiver library, notebook, or notes
  • Import from JSON
Improvements:
  • Improved scroll synchronization for Markdown preview
  • Improved syntax highlighting for 100+ existing languages
  • Substantially improved syntax highlighting performance
  • Code blocks can now properly be nested under other block-level elements in Markdown preview
  • Newlines in Markdown are now rendered as line breaks, similar to GitHub-flavored Markdown
  • JSON and XML export now contains all library data (including UUID and folder hierarchy)
  • The legacy format is still available but will be removed in a future release
Resolved issues:
  • Column count now accounts for emojis correctly
  • Proper PHP highlight in Markdown no longer requires the opening tag
  • Fixed a performance bottleneck when rendering preview for large markdown snippets
  • Fixed inconsistent vertical spacing in Markdown preview (requires reloading themes)
  • Fixed an issue where refetching gists may not yield the latest results due to request caching
  • Fixed an issue where current-line highlight may draw incorrectly when discontiguous ranges are selected

I was skeptical at first. But, I found it quite useful after trying it for a while. It allows me to save all sorts of snippets with fragments that should go into separate locations while maintaining them together. I use it to capture all the new code blocks and keep them in it. It works like my second brain that never fails to remember. It minimizes cognitive drain to a minimum, which helps me focus on big pictures and work itself.

This is an AMAZING, feature-full snippets manager. Do you need syntax-highlighting in several languages? Check! Categorise your snippets with tags? Check! Organise your snippets into folders? Check! Multiple files per snippet? Check! Built-in Markdown preview? Check! Even allows syncing and sharing snippets as gists in your Github account. Taking 0.5 star off, because I want it to be able to sync with GitLab!

I would leave a 5 star review because I love this app, however, I noticed that after leaving my computer on for a while, it just sucks up memory. to the tune of 25GB! please fix!

SnippetsLab is a beautiful application that makes everything right regarding UI and UX. But it also has a lot of small bugs that need fixing. just clicking through the interface and minimizing the app makes me stumble upon quite a few things that dont behave like they should. I dont like playing beta tester for $10 after already quite some time since it was released. you also gotta ask yourself, how much do you want to trust a developer whose single page website is more than 15MB in size. i mean, really? it scores a 0 of 100 at Google PageSpeed Insights. Obviously, this has nothing to do with the app itself, but if the developer is as terrible on macOS as he is in web development, we shouldnt be surprised that SnippetsLab is buggy. no offense.

After reverting it is working. But like most apps of this kind, not cross platform and/or can't sync (import/export). Need something better Win/OS X.
