Tessa OCR overview

Tessa - OCR extracts text from your image or PDF documents, processing each page multiple times, to optimise recognition, so that the time you spend in proofreading and correcting mistakes is minimised.

The editing tools available in the app allow you to modify pages before they are processed, so that you can whiten out un-needed areas and limit recognition to a specific part of your page

While the basic version of the app limits recognition to one page at a time, a single in-app upgrade to premium, unlocks the ability to process multiple pages in a single go. Upgrading to premium also removes ads, and unlocks functionality to edit the output text in the app itself, prior to saving.

I don't see how the developer feels he has the right to display advertisements or to charge for any feature. Tessa OCR is merely a pretty interface to Tesseract https://github.com/tesseract-ocr/tesseract, which is an open source project. Just compile and install it, and you'll have full functionality for free. Don't give this guy a dime.

I downloaded & tried this with a pretty good, clear greyscale scan of a simple random page from an A4 school textbook. Fast, but LOTS of punctuation, capitalisation & spelling mistakes (though the original very clear), MANY extraneous dots, lines, hyphens & numbers added. Original formatting totally lost. Haven't used OCR regularly for many years but the results with Tessa were appreciably worse than the software I used a lot (OmniPage Pro) over a decade ago, despite all the massive advances in technology & in the intervening period. The upgrade price is $278.00 This would actually not be useful for me as also need to recognise Traditional Chinese - which I now have to use daily - but anyway, the quality of the output I obtained here is a step backward from what I used in the late 1990s & early 2000s.

Wish you would have supported 10.7. 1. your link has too many redirects, sloppy. 2. you use click-bait to download without giving prices…. Epic fail. 3. you make no mention this tech freely from Google.

Warning - cripple-ware (i.e. in-app purchase to do much of anything), and ad-ware.
