DropBoxTool overview
DropBoxTool permits users to add any folder (symlinks) to the default DropBox folder to be synched like any other resource already present. Just drag your folder and drop it to the Tool window -- single files are not allowed -- and you're done!

Does this app merely put a GUI on top of making a symbolic link or is there additional Dropbox-y API stuff going on in the background?

Although this app does seem to work, in that it lets you create a symbolic link between Dropbox and your folder, unfortunately it seems to be entirely in Italian, which makes it hard to use for people who don't speak this language.
