This MacUpdate write up is for the Development Kit. However, the download seems to be for the Runtime Environment. If you go to the Developer web site linked on this page, you may download whichever it is that you really wanted.

I have a late 2013 Macbook pro 13" i have two installs of os x I use with this computer El capitan 10.11.1 and Mavericks 10.9.5. I installed the Java JDK U66 and on both systems it says it can't check for updates and to try again. This issue never seems to have resolved itself as I installed the copy on mavericks some days before I installed it on El capitan today. I just wondered if anyone knew how to fix this? I usually don't have a problem, though I read about the issue but that post was a year ago. If someone has any suggestions please let me know. Thanks!

Java is a great platform and a great language to program. Oracle is a lame company but I am happy that, starting with 1.7, mac version of the JDK and JRE is out of Apple's hands . 1.7 was about dynamic languages, 1.8 is about lambda functions, 1.9 will be about modularity and maybe parallelisation - should be great for big data programming.

Anyway, update 40 has been out since 3 weeks ago.
