Angry IP Scanner overview

Angry IP Scanner is an open-source and cross-platform network scanner designed to be fast and simple to use. It scans IP addresses and ports as well as has many other features. It can scan IP addresses in any range as well as any their ports. It is cross-platform and lightweight. Not requiring any installations, it can be freely copied and used anywhere. Angry IP scanner simply pings each IP address to check if it's alive, then optionally it is resolving its hostname, determines the MAC address, scans ports, etc.

What’s new in version 3.9.1

  • Mac: fix permissions in bundled JRE, so that MAC address scanning would work #384
  • Linux startup fix if JAVA_HOME has spaces #391
  • Update MAC vendors

App appears to be out of date to the point where it doesn't run on a Mac mini M1 running MacOS 11.6 aka Big Sur. I liked the idea of it, a shame.

For some reason launching it results in no windows on my Big Sur system. The application starts the launch but doesn’t complete it.

Yep; it worked as advertised. As long as I provide recognizable names to my various devices, it's easy to see which device has been assigned which IP. Nicely done. If there's anything "downside" to this app, it's the requirement for Java which, on many Macs (not mine), may not be installed; but I'm not going to ding it for that as Java is shown to be a requirement right up front.
