Audio Book overview

Audio Book enables you to convert various types of eBooks or iBooks to audiobooks in the AIFF and MP3 format. The application comes with support for over 50 robot voices, including male, female, and neutral, as well as 38 different languages.

Working with Audio Book is a breeze; just add PDF, EPUB, RTF, TXT, HTML documents or iBooks, select the language and voice, and then click on the Convert button. Batch-conversion is supported in the full version, but you can also convert individual documents via the contextual menu or through the Convert button. The list of resulting audio books will be displayed in a panel to the right of the main window. You can right-click on them and choose several options: show in Finder, play (in iTunes), add item(s) to iTunes library, or delete. Speaking of the main window, it includes the main area to view your docs as icons and a pane to select the language, voice, talking speed, and a button to test reading. The neutral voices sound like androids; some of them are highly melodious and others are mixed with audio effects.

All things considered, Audio Book is quite a powerful application that sports a clean and uncluttered user interface. It offer support for a decent number of e-book formats, including EPUB, but only two output formats - AIFF and MP3. Overall, it can be easily operated and resulting tracks can be sent to iTunes with two clicks.

Intego VirusBarrier just started reporting Audio Book as containing the malwere "OSX/MyVirusKiller.fs". This pertains to versions 1.9.0 - 1.9.3 so far. I've verified their test several times. But I have no idea what Intego is on about. There is no reference to anything called "MyVirusKiller.fs" on the Internet. Nothing. Intego went tight-lipped about their malware list many years ago. But I'll attempt to contact them to see what's going on. - - [For background: The entire anti-malware business suffers from being business. There is no sharing of data, no sharing of names of malware. Despite there being a perfectly defined naming system for malware, very few companies care or bother with it. IOW it's chaotic and unscientific by nature, which is a shame and shameful.]

I am afraid to leave this review, because it's not first time when the review is negative, the publisher of the tool would login using different user name and punish me for fair negative review by leaving giving me thumb down on my profile. Disappointing. I downloaded, installed, and just opened to see if the application is useable (=if it can use other either built-in voices, some of them are pretty OK), but just as the app starts, it tells me "Demo has expired", and asks me to purchase the full version. This app version was released on April 22, 2014. This tells me either the programming is disappointing (would not purchase full version without testing properly) or the programmer didn't test it before releasing a demo or the programmer doesn't even know what's going on. So many negative reviews and the application is still listed on the Macupdate website? It's democracy folks, but it doesn't mean somebody is free to waste my time. My time is worth more than $20. This is just sad. --- Watch now guys I will get some thumb-downs for this review, I am sure.

I am an audio book fan my current library is about 1000, titles. It would be fair to say I am at the point where I think I am entitled to say this is a good audio presentation but this one is not . I have always found computer generated voices to be somewhat flat. Good enough if one is listening to manuals, technical material, fact based expositions, in short material which does not require emotional input. Most audiobook presentations are better when presented with feeling. I find it strange that the developer here does not offer a Trial period for evaluation. I would not recommend this package to someone who wants to listen to the latest Murder Mystery Hit. If one really investigates audiobooks as I have. Then one will discover that there is so much out there which is top notch. Free on the net plus check out a good local library. This year in four months I have gone through 30 novels and have not had to pay for one, all free -- at or through the library. Some of those where 25 to 30 dollar audiobooks on iTunes.

I tried sending this question at your web site but it wound up in an endless "sending" state so perhaps it be answered here. Is there a legitimate reason for the Audio Book Folder created in the Documents Folder (on a Mac) to be named Aduio as opposed to Audio. This just looks careless to me and subsequently makes the rest of the coding suspect.
