First, I am just looking for a replacement to VectorDesigner, which I have used for the last several years, but which is not compatible with 10.8 or greater. That is the reason I am looking into Bluetail.
I have tried multiple times to use this application. I downloaded a demo from the developer's site, the developer sent me a redemption code for the App Store, and the developer directly emailed me a newer version (1.2) that is not available elsewhere yet. None of the versions works for me on 10.6.8, despite the system requirements here on MacUpdate and on the developer's site indicating that it will work on 10.6. I have tried on an early 2008 8-core Mac Pro with 12 GB of RAM and a 17" 2009 MacBook Pro with 8 GB of RAM.
While the main window would open, in the version from the App Store, I could do nothing else. The Tools Palette would not appear, regardless of how many times I selected Show from the menu. In the version sent via email, I could get the Tools to show and could draw. However, I could not get the Page Inspector, Shape Inspector, or Layers to show. I could not save a file. Once the Text palette or the Color picker appeared, I could not get them to go away, either by clicking on their close buttons or by selecting menu items.
I was able to open one of the sample files from the developer's site, but I cannot close the file without quitting. When I try to close the document, whether I click on don't save, cancel, or save, nothing happens, and I am forced to quit without saving.
After the first email to the developer, I got a response indicating that the problem must be with my computer. So I tried on a second one. Still no luck. There are other issues with placing text, screen refreshes when maximizing the window, and more.
Has anyone gotten this app to work? I think it would be a good value if it worked.
