Years ago (OCT 14, 2015) I paid $3.99 for Textastic for certain situations (like reviewing an HTML code on iPad) but never used it, not even once but I was okay with that.
Last week after years, I got a new iPad and wanted to download the app again for the same purpose so I searched for it, found it, and pressed the buy button. I thought that I was going to see a message telling me that I’ve paid before for this app and this update is free but I got charged again.
Why? The developer removed the old version and released the updated version as a new app and previous owners had to pay again and even more. It's funny we pay and then after some months or years, they charge us again for updates and bugfixes...
I requested a refund and Apple rejected the refund and asked for an explanation. I explained the situation and I got rejected again.
So BE AWARE…
Someday, you will wake up and see that you will have to pay again and a lot more for Textastic…

Textastic has been around for a while now, and it seems to have grown a community of loyal users. In a space with so much competition, that's a great feat. I'd love to hear, however, what its distinctive advantages are - compared to the various other text editors out there. I know it started as an iOS text editor, and that it can sync files with your iOS device, but is that it's only distinguishing feature? What other compelling features does it offer? - i.e., speed, ease-of-use, support for obscure languages, integration with external tools?...

Textastic works fine for me on Yosemite, does what is says for not much money BUT the biggest niggle is that the iPad app has more features which were promised for the desktop version but development seems very slow for the updates promised.

Very unstable on Yosemite + there is no easy way to extend it (with syntaxes, plugins, templates).
