ShareMate overview

ShareMate is a small but very powerful menubar utility that allows you to share the files and folders on your computer with anyone in the world! Simply connect ShareMate to your Dropbox account and you’re all set!

Incredibly simple two-click file sharing:

  1. Right-click on the file/folder you want to share, or select a few files/folders.
  2. Click on "Share using ShareMate…" in the drop-down menu.

That’s it! The app will upload the file(s)/folder(s) to the Internet all by itself, and then provide you with a link.

Now documents, photos, and videos can be shared simply by creating and sending a link to friends, family, colleagues, or partners, whether they are Dropbox users or not!

If you want to share a folder or file on you hard drive with Dropbox, you have to copy or move it into the Dropbox folder. If you copy it, you'll have a duplicated item, if you move it, it will not be existed in its original path. If you use ShareMate, it uploads the original item into the ShareMate folder in Dropbox without copying/moving and gives you the link. Very easy! One point to be considered here. After uploading, Dropbox downloads the item into the /Dropbox/Apps/ShareMate folder on your hard drive. Not to have the duplicated item on your hard drive, You can use the Selective Sync feature of Dropbox and disable sync for ShareMate folder. To do this, open Dropbox Preferences… Advanced, Selective Sync, Change Settings…, Switch to Advanced View and uncheck the ShareMate folder.
