Functional overview

Functional is a collection of utilities bringing the basic Mac OS X functions from the Apple menu to your Dock.

Add the Functional folder as a stack to the Dock, and Locking, Logging Out, Restarting, Shutting Down or Sleeping your Mac will be just a mouse-click away. As with 'Hypnotize', Functional ensures the safety of your valuable work by halting the process if you have forgotten to save any documents.

What’s new in version 1.4

Version 1.4:
  • Added brand new 'Lock' application for locking your Mac's screen while keeping your user logged in and open applications running
  • Fixed bug that sometimes would interfere with the shutdown process when running the frontmost application in fullscreen
  • Brightly colored icons are now the default icon set of Functional

Yazsoft: "Most people don't realize how much they take things for granted while still in good health. " Exactly! And I'll add to that, "or while still young." This app hasn't changed my life, but it's handy and the price is right. I give it four stars. The author has taken the suggestion of B. Jefferson Le Blanc to heart and provided colored icons, but he has left their installation as an exercise for the user. No sweat, if you're Mac-savvy. But, what if you're not? And, given that those of us most likely to need the colored icons have presbyopia, at the very least, DIY is not helpful, in any case.

Logging Out, Restarting, Shutting Down or Sleeping your Mac are already just a mouse-click away available from the Apple menu. "Functional" only duplicates those actions by bringing those basic Mac OS X functions from the Apple menu to your Dock. However some may find this collection of utilities valuable.

This is a brilliant idea! A big thanks to the developer for taking the time to put something like this together. Most people don't realize how much they take things for granted while still in good health. Keep up the great work guys!

neeklamy; You make a very good point which I agree with. But on the other hand if their condition was that advanced then it probably would be very difficult if not impossible for such users to use a keyboard for input in general. It that case they would probably be using Dragon Dictate (I mention it by name since there is no competition). In such a situation they could shut down their computer, etc. by voice command. So while I think this product is a great idea, I am not that sure on just how useful it will prove to be in relation to taking up valuable dock space. However I do appreciate the fact that the developer is not charging for this. For if he did, my attitude about this product would drastically change.
