FruitJuice overview

FruitJuice is a Mac application and online service that helps maximize Apple notebook battery life and runtime. FruitJuice makes it possible to follow Apple's recommendations for ensuring longer battery life and accurate "time remaining" estimates when running on battery. It works by tracking the battery's condition and usage in real-time and provides a complete picture of the battery's health in a simple, elegant OS X interface.

According to the "Apple Notebooks" webpage: "The built-in battery of your MacBook, MacBook Pro or MacBook Air is designed to deliver up to 1000 full charge and discharge cycles before it reaches 80 percent of its original capacity." Only with FruitJuice can you can find out the current health of your battery and see whether it is performing up to Apple's specifications. All the information you need is in one place in the "Battery Information" screen.

In addition to the main application, FruitJuice also provides a menu bar application that replaces the built-in battery status menu. At a glance, it shows you much of the same information available in the main FruitJuice application: the current battery information, plugged-in percentage for the last 7, 14, and 30 days, and calibration (or conditioning) status.

What’s new in version 2.5.3

I'm in the midst of the 14-day review period. I really like it, so from a functionality standpoint, it's great. But, for a single function, and non-essential single function at that, I think $5/6 is the most I would pay for it. (Non-essential in that my battery is almost two years old and is at 97%, so FJ is going to have a hard time improving that. :) )

This application's purpose is based on Apple OLD recommendations regarding MacBook batteries. The calibration 'cycling' of MacBook batteries is no longer recommended and all old information suggesting 'cycling' has been removed from Apple's website. The developer's website links to Apple's most current information about maximizing battery life. There you will see NO mention of cycling at all. IOW: Well intentioned and interesting as the FruitJuice is, it does not perform a critical or recommended function.

The best app I've used for intelligent battery monitoring and conditioning. My only complaints so far are in the user interface department (menubar icon and some confusing wording in the preferences). The developer has acknowledged these already and is making some adjustments for release in a future update.

For 10 bucks, it would make me the breakfast and obviously it doesn't. A very expensive tool for only show you how your battery is working!
