Corel AfterShot Pro overview

Corel AfterShot Pro is up to 4x faster than Adobe Lightroom (based on a batch export workflow, using Lightroom CC 2015.5). It's the photo editor that reveals your true creative potential and frees you: from high costs, from endless subscriptions, from hours spent editing at your computer. Import, process, and output faster, and get back behind the camera where you belong--with AfterShot Pro 3.

Features
  • Simple photo management - Sort, organize and view all your photos in one place, quickly and easily with flexible file management options--no importing required.
  • Ultra-fast workflow - Experience dramatically faster loading, selecting, editing and output with the world's fastest RAW conversion software, featuring performance that's up to 4x faster than Adobe Lightroom.
  • Powerful batch processing - Edit and perfect one or thousands of photos with powerful batch processing controls and presets that let you quickly bring out the best in every image.
  • Send your photos from AfterShot to Photoshop with just a click - AfterShot Pro integrates well with Photoshop. With AfterShot Pro as your batch-photo processor and image manager, you can quickly process your RAW photos. Then, when you're ready for more detailed editing, simply click the "Edit with External Editor" button to export in TIF directly to PhotoShop.

I tried to update from v 2 without success. Asked for help Corel Germany gave me silly advice, e.g. to download a Mac versio, then to install a Windows administrator account.. But after reading the comments here it's perhaps better not to update,-)

I wish I hadn't paid for the upgrade to Pro from the bundle purchase of the standard version. I was hoping for something better than Photos, and better performing than Lightroom, but Aftershot 3 does not fulfil either of those.

It's OK, and probably alright if you're looking to start out with a new DAM/Editor. Organising tools are rather confusing and cumbersome for a start. Editing is not all that great either - the sharpen tool is pretty awful - it looks like there's bacteria growing everywhere with the bad application across smooth image areas (even Photos outperforms it here) - or you can just end up with colour noise. I did eventually get a better result, but only after spending time tweaking various adjustments.

To be honest I'd say you're better off saving money and looking to RawTherapee, Darktable or Lightzone, which all offer better performance in most editing areas, with similar DAM capabilities. Definitely not worth considering if you have a lot of work to do with migrating images across from an existing DAM setup.

AfterSshot Pro v.2 was indeed a promising app. Unfortunately this is not true for v. 3: not only is it no longer localized, but above all it crashes many times without any warning. To make it crash it is sufficient to click on an image (or a folder) that had been removed from the library. It is not even possible to remove a folder from AS3 that doesn't exist any more. At least on a Mac this is just not useable, even if it's more rapid than competitors in ingesting and exporting. My main problem with AS3 is that it does not create useable image previews that remain visible in the library even if the external storage disc was removed.
