If this app "allows you to place a shade over your screen", so, how on earth can it "save on energy consumption" ?
And apart from this miraculous technical explanation (maybe it is not clearly formulated or I misunderstood it), why would anybody buy a 3rd party application if there are dedicated function keys for exactly this purpose on any Apple keyboard ???

This is handy and easy to use application. You can adjust the screen brightness with the help of little slider. Screen Shade is a good solution when you frequently use your mac in low-lighting situation. However this app is not necessary. Brightness feature in system preferences does almost the same job.
