Let It Snow overview

Let It Snow brings a bit of winter magic to your Mac! Bring a Winter Wonderland to your desktop with Let It Snow's realistic snow fall and get into that festive holiday feeling as snow covers your dock and settles on windows whilst you work.

Features
  • Realistic snow fall - using a physics engine
  • Snow drifts - that build up at the bottom of the screen
  • Snow covered windows - snow settles on the currently active window
  • Random flurries of snow - so you'd better wrap up warm
  • Melting snow - snow disappears after a period of time

What’s new in version 2022.0

  • Let It Snow is now a Universal build and so will run natively on both Apple Silicon and Intel hardware.
  • A 50% reduction in CPU usage on Apple M1 (compared to previous version of Let It Snow with default preferences).

This is actually a 4.3 out of 80 reviews on the mac app store. These reviews are really outdated and should probably be cleared out to reflect a more updated version of the app. I myself don't typically even bother looking into the apps page if it's not at least a 3 or 4.

I just installed my old copy of v1.3.2 on 10.10.5 and it's working as it should. Looks nothing like snowflakes though - they're just circles with halos around 'em. Although it was only using 6% CPU on a quad-core i7 processor, my fans were racing so I uninstalled it.

I could have really enjoyed it… but there is no support for dual monitors, so it snows and snows on the tiny laptop window—where I don't need any distractions—while my big monitor has nothing at all. As mentioned above, it was app store, so I had to find that out the hard way.

Don't buy! It seemed like a nice idea a little snow whilst working. CPU: 14% and WindowServer soares up to 65%. Does not work on my multiple display setup and crashed on setting the prefs within 1 minute. Did I already said how I hate this App Store ? Never buy software without a testdrive ...
