I was a huge skeptic too. I also bought this software as part of a bundle or deal of some kind and didn't pay more than half price. Every time I launched it out of desperation and I just didn't have the patience to sit with it and figure out how to make it work.
Then I had a bad shoot that I could not afford to have go wrong. So I sat down with the software and gave it a try. The interface took a little work. You choose a picture, you double click in a critical area, and then you get this screen of dots. Click a dot and it shows you the sharpening with that effect. Once you zero in on a look, you explore around with your keyboard arrow keys until you have just the right amount of sharpening. Each dot is a slightly different tweak. When you have what you want, you back out, choose the sharpen in the right column, and brush it in. Most of the time I'm lazy and just apply it to the whole picture.
Man oh man it's now become my go-to tool for saving a soft picture. Worth every penny at full price. A great deal at what I paid for it. Crashes occasionally. Interface isn't intuitive and the documentation probably needs more fleshing out. But a great tool.
