Stereonet3D overview
Stereonet3D (was OSXStereonet) plots lines and planes in spherical, equal angle or equal area, projections. The program can produce various types of plots such as scatter plots, great or small circle plots, arc segments, contour diagrams, rose diagrams, stereonets from any view direction, plots of latitude-longitude data (e.g. coastlines), a full screen 3D view of the spherical projection and data, and a Map/Satellite view of data with lat-long information.
In addition, the program can perform various operations, including calculating poles to planes, rotating planes and lines, constraining lines to lie on their respective planes, angle between lines or planes, cylindrical best fit, conical best fit, and mean vector. Data with lat-long information can be exported to Google Earth.
What’s new in version 6.4
- Remove data and info drawers and instead have them in the same window. Drawers are a neat solution but they were deprecated long ago.
- Small Circles are now datasets and can be added using the +SC button.
- Overturned planes can be indicated by the letter combination OV under the dip quadrant column. Poles to overturned planes point upwards (they have negative plunge).
- The key modifier for drag and drop of the Stereonet and Map View is now the command key. The previous Shift key conflicted with the functionality of the Map View.
- Strike of planes or Trend of lines in quadrant format (e.g. S30E) is now read properly when parsing a text file.
- Fixed lots of deprecated code.
- Update the Help document accordingly. Stereonet3D still uses the Help Indexer but there can be issues updating to the latest Help document. Please let me know if you find some.
- Minimum deployment is macOS 10.13
