AudioNote overview

AudioNote allows users to record notes with synchronized audio. AudioNote combines the functionality of a notepad and voice recorder to create a powerful tool that will save you time while improving the quality of your notes. Perfect for business or students!

By synchronizing notes and audio, AudioNote automatically indexes your meetings, lectures, or study sessions. Need to review the discussion about deliverables on your next project? Trying to remember what the professor had to say about a key point? With AudioNote there is no need to waste time searching through the entire recording to find out. Each note acts as a link directly to the point at which it was recorded, taking you instantly to what you want to hear! Didn't take any notes during the meeting? No problem, you can add them later!

Features
  • Synchronized note and audio recording
  • Fully functional text note application with copy, paste, etc.
  • Pen mode for Drawing or Handwritten notes
  • Seek directly to audio by tapping text or drawings; tap-and-hold to seek 10 seconds prior
  • Highlighted notes during playback

Just a suggestion, but if you're a student looking to make both audio notes and written notes, you might want to consider a more full-bodied outliner program, like OmniOutliner Pro. Yes, it costs more, but you not only get to audio-record your notes, you also get to structure all your class notes, your To-Do lists, your terms papers and party reminders in one powerful program that will help to organize your whole life. You can include written notes, audio notes, images, PDF files, and links to web sites. You can expand or collapse all the topics in your outline, or you can selectively "hoist" one topic to focus on that particular subject and all its sub-topics. Nothing against this software, which I won't try out since the need this app addressed is already satisfied by OmniOutliner Pro, but besides getting all the power and functionality of a deeper, richer program, you also get to develop a habit of pursuing quality, rather than just living cheap or just getting by. That habit'll kill you eventually, one way or the other.

This looks like a great program. However, it appears to suffer from the major problem of proprietary file format lock-in: the developer stops supporting it (and they _will_, at some time) and you could be (if you're still alive then) left with valuable files that you can no longer open because the Macintosh platform has moved on. What is weird is it looks like there are several file formats crammed into one—plist, rtf, PostScript?, etc. Why not make the file a bundle with the information from the various layers in separate files, using common file formats such as rtf, aiff, PDF, Postscript, plist, etc., so at least the user stands a fighting chance of getting something useful back. I've been burned too many times over the years to put something valuable in a proprietary file format from a small developer. Sorry, no deal.

Brilliant little program - perfect for taking notes while recording (or just typing X when something worthwhile is said so you can jump to those good bits later), or for transcribing notes from recordings from other sources ... iPhone, video soundtrack ripped to mp3, or whatever ... And a very responsive and helpful developer, who reacts swiftly to problems or suggestions ... You can add drawings too ... if you need the whole AV abilities of PearNote, then go for it - but it costs eight times as much as AudioNote ....
