Seas0nPass for Mac

I've now used Seas0nPass twice. Once to jailbreak 5.0.2 using Mac OS X 10.5 on my eMac and now to jailbreak 5.3 using Windows 8.1. Both times it worked fine. My only quibble is that you do need to have a guide open at the same time since it's not entirely clear what's happening at each step. As for the post by someone else this month--on Windows 8.1 (at least) it worked just fine for me this time and my recollections of the process on the eMac were that they were painfully slow (of course, the eMac was probably 20 to 40 times slower than my i5 2.9 GHz Hackintosh/Windows machine ;-).

used to work in the past. But with this version I always get an Error at the End: "Process failed with reason: Filesystem patches failed!!" I deleted cache files - forced it to re-download the ipsw file - but always the same negative result. Now I logged in as an Admin on my Mac (OS X 10.6.8) and the installer hangs when it says it is unzipping the ipsw file. takes forever and does nothing! This piece of crap is broken. BTW, check their blog > release announcement and you will find other people with problems. They invest time in their iOS App "Infuse" and don't really care about hacking that old Apple TV 2nd Gen. (sad but true).

very cool soft for jailbreak ATV2

Worked like a charm, best not to have other USB devices connected when doing this process...

I have two Apple TV2 units. I downloaded this within hours of its appearance. It installed flawlessly, the first time, on both Apple TVs. (Previously, older editions would install on one but never the other.) I used the USB cable that came with my Harmony 650 remote, FWIW. XBMC, at least as of May 25, 2012, would install via apt-get from the repositories, but did not display in the interface. A bit of googling turned up a patched deb package that could be installed with dpkg -i, so now I have xbmc. I haven't had this version going long enough to detect stability problems, but previously, this would cause ATV2 to freeze up about once per week, requiring a reboot. It got to be a significant annoyance. It helps to be able to use the command-line to ssh into the box directly, install wget, and download things like xbmc add-ons directly to the box. Overall, considering what this is, and what you pay for it (it is free), it is a remarkable achievement. If you don't sort of enjoy software tinkering, however, this probably isn't going to impress you much. The modifications you can install are still quite limited. (I tried installing a VNC server. Although it works, it is so impossibly unresponsive, even with only 256 colors, that I decided to remove it. That's too bad, because I would really like a way to control my ATV2 from my laptop (one of mine is for music, and runs screen less).)
