I am a fan of HexFiend, which is great and free. Yet I have purchased Synalyze It (I actually bought the Pro version), which seriously kicks ass. Synalyze It is totally innovative. The difference is maybe like the difference between a text editor that displays a packed JSON file dumbly, and a syntax-aware text editor that pretty-prints your JSON and shows it in color. Except the benefit is even larger for binary files. Congratulations to the developer for a great idea, and a very nice implementation. Suggestion: the grammar chooses whether to display the values in hex or decimal. Let the user override that. Very often I want to switch between decimal and hex, and back again (without necessarily altering the grammar). This could be in a contextual pop up menu, or whatever

This may be a good app (I haven’t tried it), but I’ve found HexEdit to be an excellent binary editor with many features — and it’s FREE. There are several other free ones available here as well (wxHexEditor, Hex Fiend, 0xED, iBored, FileCarver and several others). Though it’s apparently on sale just now, I can’t see a reason to pay for a hex editor.

FYI, the developer seems to now be releasing this as a universal Intel/PPC binary.

Very helpful tool for working with binary files. Developer is very responsive and takes feedback into consideration, which gives this app great potential.

This is great ! A kind of resedit for binary files. I suggest you join grammars for as many file types as you can ! Maybe you could federate grammars, so that people could send them to you, and maybe we could get them with each updates, or download them automatically once vetted by you ? Keep up the good work !
