Nottingham overview

Nottingham is an elegant notepad for OS X. Designed to be lightweight and easy to use, it's a breath of fresh air perfect for storing whatever is on your mind. Best of all, it keeps your data safe by syncing to your iPhone and the Web via Simplenote.

Features
  • Lightning-fast search across even the largest library of notes.
  • Organize your notes with @tags.
  • Create [[WikiLinks]] between your notes.
  • Store your files as plain text notes so you can easily sync with Dropbox.
  • View fully customizable Markdown previews of your notes. (Coming soon!)
  • Completely keyboard navigable - no mouse needed.
  • Version 3.0 is completely rewritten from the ground up in Swift 3 to take full advantage of macOS's newest features and to lay a solid foundation for future improvements.

What’s new in version 3.0.3

Version 3.0.3:

Note: Now requires a 64-bit Intel processor

  • It's now super easy to insert a wiki link to another note. When editing a note, just press ⇧⌘W to pop-up a list of matching note titles you'd like to insert
  • Nottingham now supports editing HTML and Markdown file formats
  • Changed the "Delete Note" hotkey to ⇧⌘Delete so it no longer conflicts with the standard system ⌘Delete (delete to the begging of the current line)
  • Increase the frequency that Nottingham checks for updates
  • A good number of other bug fixes

Ok Tyler... I'm glad this is being updated, and the new design/ layout looks very nice & clean as does the font design but it seems at this point to lack a number of features it previously had in v. 2.1.3... 1: When editing/ formatting a note the Format > Font menus are now non-functional, as is the system font panel - hence text can't be formatted (font size/ bold/ italic etc) 2: No way to add 'tags' or 'pin' notes as previously, nor any way to colour them. 3: No option to display the note list above the current note as previously. 4: Re: Hiding the note list at the side: To be useful this needs some kind of KB shortcut that does this or a UI button or something. I'd be happy to pay £10 for this if you brought back/ implemented the above. = Yes it's a paid app with 14 day trial now...

Nottingham is not free any more : 14.99$
The app is not mentioned in their FAQ page.
Is it really supported?
The app appears to "wake up" at the same time as nvAlt.

Alas, Nottingham appears to be abandoned, with no updates for over a year. Tyler seems to have moved on from this project. Simplenote became enormously important to me two years ago as a repository for all kinds of personal data, synced across multiple devices. I used to base my Simplenote access in Nottingham, and it was great, but then moved to Justnotes when that became a paid app (and became much more capable, too), so I don't miss Nottingham. But, for a time, it was a great program for my needs.

All I'd like is to be able to access my notes from the menu bar without having the app taking up Dock space. You can't do that with Notational Velocity but you can't really complain about that as that's free. I'm a bit surprised that Nottingham, which isn't free and should have superior features to NV, doesn't allow you to just run it from the Menubar. In that regard, I'll have to stick with Justnotes, a simpler free app which also syncs with Simplenote and works just from the Menubar. If this seemingly simple functionality becomes available with Nottingham, I could then think about switching.
