FileClipper overview

FileClipper lets you copy/move/link a file on the clipboard to a selected location in Finder.

OS X Finder can copy files or directories using the clipboard, but cannot move files or perform other file operations. With FileClipper, not only is moving files possible, but aliases and symbolic links can also be made. The file references made by the Finder are treated as FileClipper tools, so copying and pasting can be done naturally.

What’s new in version 3.1.1

Version 3.1.1:
  • Fixed an error which occurred when a folder was selected in a Finder window set to list view in OS X 10.10 or later
  • Added ability to drop a destination on FileClipper's applications

I've finally found an interesting way to use this: I have a few folders with lots of aliases in them and wanted to replace them with symbolic links, due to the heavy weight of aliases in OS 10.9 (my folders weighed hundreds of Mb, just for aliases!!!) I've had a hard time making the last versions work in 10.9.5: 3.1.1 and 3.1.2 always asked for "GUI Scripting" permission, no matter what I did... So I tried 3.0.9 and that worked, then tried again 3.1.2 and it kept working till now!

Excellent scripts to place into the Finder window bar, especially for quick symlinks and hard links. Also the "Move" script is useful (mimics the cut function in Windows.) I don't understand the low rating here.

Well, ok, it's working... But in the end: what's the use? You have to "copy" the source item, then open the destination folder, then click on the operation (copy, paste, alias, symbolic link). Except for the symbolic link (i.e. if you don't already use some CM to create them), now you have the destination folder open, you just would have to drag the source file to it, without this set of utilities, so the gain in your workflow is minimal. The only positive thing is that you don't have to organize windows in a way that you can directly drag and drop from source to destination. I'm searching more something like a CM that makes you copy/move the selected file to a destination folder in a given volume (a bit like what Maxmenus did).

I'm just trying this. Note that the latest version is not PPC anymore, the only choice left if you want a PPC compatible version is to use the Tiger version found on the dev's site: http://www.script-factory.net/software/FinderHelpers/FileClipper/archives/oldversions/FileClipper-2.1.3.dmg
