Now on version 10, and I returned to it with some more recent discounts on upgrades. Still Java based, which is a shame - but the output it can generate is very nice, it now has retina support and the integration with the iPhone/iPad iMindMap apps is good (although they force use of their own cloud storage, which requires a subscription 12 months after purchase of the software).
It is true that MindNode and iThoughtsX are much better value, but this can do some very impressive things in capturing ideas quickly and producing a hybrid of timelines and mind maps (should you need these things). And if you compare it to something like mindjet's MindManager for Mac then this is a real snip!

Not a bad piece of software - but written in Java rather than a native Mac program, with all that entails (slightly peculiar user interface and an inability to keep up with Apple's OS improvements for things such as retina screen support).
What is less good is the update pricing - a mere 33% off the price of the new software for what are not earth-shaking changes. Given that the software is expensive this is a poor deal. It also is getting a little burdened with flashy extras such as 3D mind maps and flowcharts. It sometimes feels like everything but the kitchen sink will be added in an attempt to justify further upgrade fees.
To be honest, most people would be far better off with something like MyThoughts or MindNode Pro.

Funny that despite the popularity of mind maps, no one's written a review of this, even of the demo.
Is that because this "official" "endorsed" software is priced for CEOs, and not for normal people?
Perhaps only CEOs have minds worth mapping...
Maybe the dev could introduce a gimped version for mere mortals (maybe with no Microsoft Office integration?) and sell it for 75% less?
