It's become bloated beyond belief. They've added so many useless additional features on top of the basic syncing functionality. t's over 260mb - just to sync files. The sync-only Dropbox alternative Maestral is just 44mb.

Switched to Nextcloud a while ago and I am not missing anything. Actually was surprised to find very useful additional Nextcloud apps like Talk, Cookbook, TimeManager and many more.

I *mostly* moved to using Proton Drive. It's thoroughly encrypted with cutting edge encryption that would drive a quantum computer into retirement. I was already using Proton Mail, also encrypted, and was kindly grandfathered in to everything else they make at the nice old price. Plus they provided 520 GB of space. BUT! I still keep Dropbox running because (1) It's compatible with the macOS file system (unlike Box, sad to say). (2) Important files are backed up in an encrypted sparsebundle disk image, one of Apple's best code creations. Do it inside the Disk Utility app. (3) As an early adopter, they gave me a useful amount of free space. (4) A lot of other apps are able to back up directly to Dropbox.

WARNING!!!
I downloaded Dropbox 183.4.7058 earlier today and all H broke loose with constant fileproviderctl crashs.
Posted on their Community forums, and fairly shortly, a Dropbox rep, Jay, answered with a link to revert to Dropbox 182.4.6427.
That solved the crashes. Either do not update or find the 1824.6427 version. I tried to attach the .dmg file, but this forum does not allow.

v181.4.5678 is out. The app stalled after its self-update. It required Quit and reopening before it worked. That knocked off a point. I'm also sick of the Eternal-Red-1 nonsense, which equates to a constant NAG to upgrade, which I won't. Today I'm actually considering dumping Dropbox. Something with end-to-end encryption would be nice.
