What's Keeping Me eliminates the problem where you can't empty the Trash or eject a disk because something is preventing it. Usually the reason is because some application has a file open, and thus you can't get rid of the disk or trash the file. That's why we made What's Keeping Me! What's Keeping Me will identify the application that is holding the item open. You can then use What's Keeping Me to quit the problem application (or kill it if needed) so you can perform your task. What's Keeping Me includes an Automator workflow so you can perform searches directly from the Finder too!
What’s new in version 2.4
Version 2.4:
Now runs on OS X 10.6 or later and 64-bit Intel-based Macs only
Updated to take advantage of latest Mac technologies
It's been a looong time since I had need for What's Keeping Me? So I checked here for information on the current version. There's no hint of the app (or any other software) at the "Developer website".
I was amazed when I launched this 8-year-old app on Monterey and it ran fine!
Works perfectly for me in High Sierra 10.13.6. It DID display the App that was launched from the volume which refused to be ejected. Killed the app, Volume could be ejected! Without "What's Keeping Me" I would never have found out that an app was starting from my backup volume on my secondary HDD, rather than from the main SSD. THANK YOU !!!
Don't bother downloading this until an update is released because it doesn't work.
The dev. didn't say if the bug was specific to OS X 10.11, but it used to work. He has confirmed the issue and says he'll fix it if he can find the cause, and when he has time.
Right now it earns a half star because it's useless. But I don't want to rate it now because it has been helpful in the past.
Helps me out quite a bit -- I don't have to remember or look up command line solutions. Mac OS sucks when it comes to giving out technical information. This app fills the gap nicely with a pretty simple and effective UI.
Now I'm only wondering why random apps are in use by SystemUIServer!
