And - no, I don't find it _too_ expensive, albeit a little pricey.

Works very well and it really can shape up your old records. Very simple to operate with enough control.
But imo its too expensive. $40 is just too much.

Can't suggest this above for some reason, but also check out iZotope Music & Speech Cleaner.

The high-end implementations of their algorithms are simply stunning. I do have issues with the high-end interface--but this "lite" app looks much cleaner.
