This has potention, but at current it's not worty to use as it WILL NOT remember and load current session. For example, I can have 3 files open and quit, and then when I load Editra again it SHOULD load automaticlly the 3 text files, but it DOES NOT!!!

Editra is evolving into a first-class code editor, and it's very fast. I picked it up as a lightweight second editor, but it has a lot of the features of the heavyweights like Chocolat and Sublime Text.

This editor has some nice features but also some obvious bugs. On another level, it is crossplatform (usual warnings apply) using the wxWindows widget set. Developers who write crossplatform programs are usually from the Linux community and thus have much lower standards for interface polish than Mac users. And the widget sets (GTK, wxWindows, Qt, etc.) that they employ hinder them further in making an interface that resembles what Mac users are accustomed to. And it seems that they tend to do little testing on Macs. I don't know about this project in particular, but I've interacted with developer teams that don't even have access to a Mac. Another gripe that I have with the plethora of editors including this one is that many of them cater especially to Python and maybe a couple other languages-du-jour and treat other languages as second-class citizens. Editra recognizes Ada for syntax highlighting but many other features are broken for Ada, including code folding, indentation guides, and no linking from compiler errors back to the relevant code line. (The Ada to which I refer is GCC Ada, aka GNAT, an official part of GCC.) Interface problems are too numerous to mention, but here's one: When a file is changed from its version on disk, the red close button should have a dot in it; Editra does not do this. I'm sure I could easily list at least a dozen problems like this.

I have been using this since version 5.70 and just upgraded to 6.20 which I wasn't aware of at one point. Since I had upgraded it to the current version. All it does is quit once I try to activate it. Then I will get a message box that says 'EDITRA QUITS UNEXPECTEDLY." So I just double click on the icon and still quits on me. This is my favorite text editor and been really frustrating for me since I updated it from version 5.70 to 6.20. I don't know what the problem is. My computer is an Apple 1.42GHz FW800 Power Mac with 2.25GB of ram. I don't know what is going on with it now.

Before I got into my current job, I had little need for a source-code editor. But now that I'm there, and have had time to survey the various Mac/Win/Ubuntu alternatives (best-of-breed in each: ?/PSPad/gedit), this app suddenly became a standout! It seems to have lain low for most of 2008, then got a boost of interest around the time I first noticed it (in the fall) and has been updated steadily since. For those who must work with code, this is a strong multi-platform contender which you really must check out. It has most major features (code folding!) already, but as the devs only seem to be picking up steam, this should be a project to watch ... It's extensible, highly configurable, seems to be stable, opens everything ... kudos to the devs. This one already kicks butt at 0.4 -- can't wait 'til 1.0!!
