RightWebPage Professional overview

RightWebPage Professional is a quality assurance tool that verifies many aspects of conformance of Web sites with best practices of Web engineering. You can use it connected to the Internet, inside a corporate intranet or even locally, without a network connection. Web sites can be tested for compliance to W3C standards such as CSS, HTML, XHTML, HTML5, SVG, MathML, mobileOK, i18n, WCAG and many others suggested by ISO 23026:2006 - Standard of Best Practices of Web Engineering.

You can also create functional test suites that are recorded during navigation and played back with online verifications that indicate a change of website contents or interactions.

What’s new in version 7.1

Version 7.1:
  • This release is compatible with OS X 10.10 Yosemite and contains two new features: it has better HTML5 validation with updated non-DTD verification, and W3C i18n validation for international considerations.

I'm rather disappointed about this software. At first the usability is strange. It seems it's been written without respect to Apple's guidelines. But what's even worse: it crashes and complains about several issues in some tested HTML documents, that are non existent. For example it says the body tag is unknown, although it's coded correctly and not uppercase. Clicking on the given line numbers gets me anywhere but not to the corresponding lines. (The W3C online validation service gives no errors at all there.) Maybe i'm missing something there. So the rating is for the usability and the GUI.

This software is excellent and some of its test metrics are unique. Some of the IEEE/ISO tests that it supports are not covered by any other app or service. I have discovered that versions 4.7 & 4.8 can also run on Mac OS X 10.6.8 but you first have to manually unpack the app with a tool such as UnPkg , Payload Extractor or Pacifist.

My first two comments from before have been fixed, remembering the userid/password for protected pages and the limited recursion for off site pages, but in 2.6 now, I get a lot of crashes (and reports to Apple). Also interface is not very intuitive.

1. Doesn't remember userid/password for password protected parts of site. 2. When enabling recursion, should it really go deep into other sites, ie non-owned but referred to sites? Maybe when you go offsite it should stop at level one. 3. Doesn't like to be stopped or quit when running. Had to "force quit".
