MailServe overview

MailServe helps you set up a fully functional mail server on Mac OS X that can:

send outgoing mail
receive incoming mail
fetch mail from an ISP mail server
filter out spam
store all these mail on the server & and allow them to be read them from any mail client
allow mail to be organized into folders and sub-folders
authenticate users before they are allowed to send mail through the server
encrypt mail coming in and out of the server using SSL (including inserting Intermediate CA certs)

MailServe organizes each of these tasks-from the simple to the complex-into discrete panels in its user interface. This allows the user to turn the mail services on one-by-one, and turn them off individually when they're not needed.

MailServe does a lot of complicated configuring of your server beneath its Mac-like user interface. It does this in a non-invasive manner, touching as little as possible of the original system files so as to leave your system in its pristine state. And you can remove all the files installed by the MailServe, at one go, using the De-Install option in MailServe's Help menu.

Le plus simple serveur de mail reception et envoie , qui soit sur le macintosh , je recommande ce produit pour tout ceux qui ne veulent pas passer trois jours a configurer postfix et dovecot , ce produit marche trés bien. et vaut ses 25 dollars

Installation was a charme. Runs fast and stable on my "server" (old Mac mini with SSD:-). The fetch mail implementation is great (Apple Server has none at all). Had one question before buying that was answered very quickly. An update to the next version for just about 20 $ is, in my opinion, very OK.

MailServe provides an excellent interface for configuring mail services in OS X - and it certainly does a better job at it than Apple's own Mavericks Server. Related settings are logically grouped and easily accessible, the guides are easy to follow, and several advanced features - i.e., aliases, virtual domains, etc. - are quite easy to setup. It also provides 'spam training' functionality out-of-the-box - something which in Mavericks Serve is only available with third-party add-ons. Overall, an excellent product, and one of the VERY FEW cheap email server solutions available for OS X. My only suggestion to the developer, is that he consider his pricing and upgrade policy, as this seems to be the biggest area of complain from most users. While $20 is not a lot to ask for a full-featured mail server (compare this pricing with Kerio or Communigate), the fact that Apple priced Mavericks Server at that price point means that inevitable comparisons will ensue - and users will feel 'short-changed'.

This is a complete rip-off! The app itself is not bad, but it won't work after a major system update. If you buy MailServe for 10.7 you will have to buy again the very same app for 10.8 without any additional features. Just buy it again for a new system. I already bought it twice, won't buy it again. Better to use a free solution, see how to enable postfix here: http://slashusr.wordpress.com/2012/02/14/enabling-postfix-for-outbound-relay-via-gmail-on-os-x-lion-11/

In mail software, it is important to provide security updates regularly as the core software releases new fixes. This has not happened in the past year or two, despite my observing at least one CVE against the underlying software. Virtual folders never could be set up correctly, even inserting stock code in the custom directives section straight from the dovecot manuals. I contacted the author once, after over a month of waiting for a response, gave up. While it was good software at the time, I find myself wishing I could find a better solution that used more current dovecot.
