DNS Enabler for Mojave overview

DNS Enabler can set up a fully-functioning Domain Name Server (DNS) on a plain Mac OS X machine. It is designed to allow a user to set up domain name information quickly using a single window, in the fastest time.

DNS Enabler provides the interface to allow users to specify domain name-to-address mappings for machines on the Internet, as well as their aliases or MX records (e.g., which machines act as mail servers for the domain).

Additionally, it allows users to set the other domain and zone information, e.g., Time-To-Live Intervals, that determine how long these information remain valid.

It will automatically generate the named.conf file, the forward mapping files for each domain, the reverse mapping files for each network, and all the resource and reverse pointer records.

What’s new in version 12.0

Version 12.0:
  • The current named/BIND binary bundled into DNS Enabler is BIND 9.12.2-P2 . DNS Enabler for Mojave can handle the creation of TXT (DKIM and SPF) records.

It does not seem to support SRV records used for autodiscovery, and the developer does not respond to email.

DNS Enabler looks more robust than Leopard Server's standard DNS. The developer's site doesn't mention if DNS Enabler is compatible/recommended for deployment on Leopard Server. Has anyone done this? Thanks!

I've been using DNS Enabler for over 4 years and can testify that it's rock solid. While you can find many references for configuring BIND, your actual requirements will always differ from those of the providers of the information. Thus, customization is extremely difficult and requires trial and error. DNS Enabler completely simplifies the process and allows ongoing edits with ease. For those who are complaining about the lack of a true demo, any savvy user could copy the BIND configuration files during the demo period - thus eliminating the need to purchase a license. For $15, the developer more than deserves to recoup some of his developments costs. If your network would benefit from managed DNS, this will be the best $15 bucks you've spent in a long time. Heck, if the developer comes here, I'll treat 'em to dinner and a few beers, too ;-)

Installed it on a machine around two years ago. Never again watched at it, the setup it made daily serves around 40 clients. If you nedd a quick, no headache and zero maintenance solution, you can buy it without regrets. DNS made easy.
