Gawker overview

Gawker allows you to create time-lapse movies using your iSight/DV camera. Some of its features are:
  • Record a time-lapse movie using your iSight/DV camera.
  • Share your camera over the internet, broadcasting images at a specified interval (i.e. every 30 seconds).
  • Publish your camera and browse others nearby using Bonjour.
  • Connect to remote cameras and record their image stream into a time-lapse movie.
  • Combine two streams to create a movie showing up to 4 locations side-by-side.

You need to fix the requirements. It says PPC/Intel but also states it requires Snow Leopard. Snow Leopard doesn't run on PPC.

Gawker works fine on the iSight cam side, but every time I try to record my desktop, no matter what times I set in the scheduler, the record light turns on for the duration and then produces a movie file of 0:00 in length. The user interface isn't intuitive but you can eventually figure it out. I just wished the desktop capture worked.

WOW! it's great to see this piece of art back to the game!!! I used to love to do some movies with Gawker! Now I appears to be back to development, after some time out of news. Please, support, and keep going ... you have doing a great and unique software!

Gawker's interface is mostly very straightforward and clean. The recording feature seems fine, like a simplified version of BTV Pro and more restrained than iVeZeen. It doesn't give you the same degree of control as an animation programme, such as Stop-Motion Studio but that is not it's purpose. One of the nicest features, it seems to me, is the ability to combine inputs from two (or more?) cameras into one double width window. Very slick. I haven't tested the Bonjour features so I can't comment. I was hoping to test the internet cam feature but cannot work out how to. There is no help facility and the web site is little more than an attractive brochure. I think that this feature needs to be made clearer for people like me who don't know what to do with "ports for sharing" or whatever.
