MemoryMiner overview

MemoryMiner is the award-winning Digital Storytelling application used to discover the threads connecting peoples' lives across time and place. It lets you zero in on the stories depicted in your photos by linking them to each other based on people, places and time. Use it to annotate photos in order to specify who is in the picture, where the picture was taken, when it was taken, and most importantly, what's going on.

Using the built-in iSight camera, record audio or video to tell your side of the story. Drag and drop audio, video, URL's, etc as attachments onto your photos to add depth and context. Each photo thus becomes a frame in an endless storyboard which can be browsed by periods in a person's life, where people overlap, by place, by time, or any combination. Create self-contained library documents to share with other MemoryMiner users, or export beautiful interactive Web sites which can be automatically uploaded to your .Mac account or other Web server. MemoryMiner also works beautifully with PulpMotion in order to create stunning video presentations suitable for web, DVD or iPod/iPhone. MemoryMiner lets you recreate the experience of telling stories around a photo album, even when all the people involved can't be in the same place at the same time.

This is a great piece of software with unique features. This is the way iPhoto should have been and Apple should have bought Memoryminer and incorporated it. The possibilities to create stories, timeline, configure photos etc. are impressive. Because of a unique combination of hardware, touchpad and two mice, there was an issue and the developer John patiently worked with and resolved the issue. He was very responsive and resourceful. Highly recommended. I am sure the software will further develop.

I've been waiting for an update to MemoryMiner for quite a while. The app used to be a great innovation when tagging photos of people. Then came iPhoto 09 and "Names," which made MemoryMiner somewhat obsolete, at least in my world. I wrote to the developer and suggested that MemoryMiner 2 should have an option to "only import and sync with tagged photos from iPhoto that feature peoples' names." That MemoryMiner 2 should go hand-in-hand with iPhoto 09, i.e. when changing a tag in MemoryMiner 2 it should be reflected in iPhoto 09. When deleting an image in MemoryMiner 2, it should be deleted in iPhoto 09 or at least mark in MemoryMiner 2 photos that have been deleted in iPhoto 09 after they were imported into MemoryMiner 2. At the moment, MemoryMiner 2 does not sync photos back, i.e. some of my thumbnails in MemoryMiner 2 are linked to missing photos… and you won't see them until you click on one. Stupid. There's been a lot of work going into MemoryMiner 2… gimmicks and features that look nice but don't add to the ease of use in your every day work. My time is limited. I cannot do a whole bunch of people tagging again. I've gone the iPhoto way… and that's it. If MemoryMiner 2 doesn't play game, then good bye. It was nice until it lasted. I won't upgrade.

Downloaded the demo a few days ago and the price was $29. After evaluating it I decided that it was worth the price and tried to purchase, but now it's $49. That's too much. This program is a good idea, but it needs work. It is NOT intuitive, but rather difficult to understand.
