Mac Shutdown overview

Mac Shutdown is the modern macOS application to shutdown the Mac when unattended under different conditions. It is able to use 'Soft Shutdown' and 'Hard Shutdown' to shutdown your system. The 'Soft Shutdown' is issued at Finder-level, and asks all running apps to quit before shutdown. The 'Hard shutdown' option is issued at system-level, and offers a very low level of probability of having the shutdown interrupted by an app which refuses to quit. The ‘Hard Shutdown’ feature from release 4 of Mac Shutdown uses the latest Apple XPC technology (the recommended way now by Apple, secure and digitally signed, to escalate admin privileges) to provide admin-authenticated actions. It allows secure shutdown of your Mac, providing admin authentication only one time at installation.

Mac Shutdown is customizable, with an easy-to-use setup panel (no coding or editing of script required). It's small, fast, simple, and reliable, and is now more stable than ever. It is fully compliant with macOS 10.11, and is fully optimized for use with macOS 11 Big Sur.

Mac Shutdown is fully customizable. The user can choose to shutdown the Mac:

  • On a scheduled plan
  • On a specific date and time
  • When a generic file is removed or moved on your Hard Disk
  • When a download is finished: using Safari using Firefox or Camino or Netscape using Speed Download
  • At launch time to use it via Apple iCal
  • When a keyword is found inside a continuously checked web wage

Ummm... try in terminal... sudo shutdown - [h][r][k][u] now [or a time specified] <ret> e.g. sudo shutdown -h now And it doesn't cost $12. Shutdown rather than sleep is preferred as it helps to reduce your electricity bill!

The developer's site, where you go to buy this, isn't even a secure site. Beware!

It’s 2019 now and why do people still want to “shutdown” their computer ? If you set your computer to sleep for 8 hours per day it will add about three cents per month to your bill. So you can literally pay the extra cost for 30 years if you just save this $12 and putting your computer to sleep via free system built-in energy saver. Modify the sleep mode level via free built-in terminal if you want to save more.

Free Alternatives! 1) Energy Saver: - Go to: System Preferences.../Energy Saver/Schedule... - Check ON "Sleep". - Change "Sleep" to "Restart" or "Shutdown" as you choose. - Use the Day menu to choose when the action will occur. - Fill in the 'at' box with the desired time. OR 2) AppleScript/Automator users, here is a script to use: An AppleScript to generate a timed shutdown http://hints.macworld.com/article.php?story=20040209142949995

TRY/Use OnyX it's FREE and has excellent additional features. Why waste thirteen bucks for this application and in addition it does not work in Mavericks or earlier MacOS.
