TreetopLights overview

TreetopLights is an application that places a Christmas tree on the desktop and holiday lights on the menubar or screen edges. The desktop tree can be decorated with blinking or fading lights, an assortment of ornaments, a treetop star, and perhaps some snow. A small assortment of lights are available, and custom lights can be designed and added for both the tree and screen lights. The ambient lighting can be controlled for the appearance of a dimly or brightly lit room, and the transparency and size of the tree can be set to keep it out of the way, or set the perfect holiday mood. The optional but festive menubar lights can blink or glow to decorate the menubar, or even go around the screen. A customizable countdown timer displaying days until Christmas and the twelve days of Christmas is included for display on the desktop tree and dock icon. There's also an option to send a Christmas greeting through Apple's Mail application. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays!

Thank you so much for this nice little program. I only had version 2.1 but this couldn't run on El Capitan. Now I found version 2.4 and all works much better than before. Many possibilities to change the view and behavior of the program. A big 'thank you' to the developer!

Just installed on 10.10.5 and it opened right up.

The dev’s website is active, so this app can still be downloaded, and additional screenshots can be seen on the website.

BE SURE TO GO TO THE WEBSITE BECAUSE THERE’S A LOT OF INFO THERE ABOUT THE OPTIONS AND PREFERENCES!

It even tells you how to send a Xmas message from within the app via Apple mail.

Still works reasonably well in Mavericks - no snowflake animation any more, but the bulbs float above all windows, so I'm still happy.

Just installed and configured this for the 2012 Christmas season and it's working fine on OS X 10.7.6 Intel 64, so don't let the fact that it hasn't been updated in years scare you off. I've used it for 3 years now and don't recall having any trouble. Adds some holiday cheer to my screen and and it's FREE! There's plenty of options for both the tree and the lights around the screen. You'll also like the MacLampsX screensaver - I'm running it too. https://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/16740/maclampsx
