Lexikon-Sonate overview

Lexikon-Sonate is an interactive realtime composition environment for musical composition and live performances. It takes advantage of composition algorithms that has been developed by Karlheinz Essl since the 1980's. With this algorithmic music generator on can easily create fascinating and complex musical structures on the fly.

Lexikon-Sonate is an infinite music installation that can run on a computer for years without repeating itself. It can also be used as a computer instrument for live performances.

Dr. Essl may be great, but his license is annoying. You can’t write songs that you can sell later, or perform live and charge admission. http://www.essl.at/works/Lexikon-Sonate.html says “You may not use this work for commercial purposes.“

This is amazing. Amazing because of an algorithm and instruments (probably MIDI), it generates rhythmic "music" with beats and tempo. Listeners may be pleased to hear "virgin" tunes, as claimed. This may be useful to play in public, in cafe or arts galleries, etc. context doing away with music copyrights. What I wish for: - selectable tempo, algorithms for slow, hot, fast pace, etc. genres of music. Thank you to the creators for this.
