Show\Hide Files overview
Show\Hide Files is an application created to cause the Finder to show Unix files and other hidden files. For those who know what to touch and not to in these files this app will help when you need to get to hidden files without going through Terminal. If you touch some of the files that are revealed with this application you may render your computer inoperable so be careful. The developer claims he is not responsible for any of the results from this product.

in Yosemite to toggle hidden files simply press [command] [shift] .

This software does exactly what it claims to. It even exits automatically after the operation, so it's easy to pop this into your utility folder and toggle hidden files in a couple of clicks.
