What’s new in version 25.1
- Place entry: the country was not added after clicking on Complete/Replace button.
- Places database integrated into Heredis: for example, Algiers added and Vieille-Chapelle coordinates corrected.
- Gedcom export: union status no longer exported for single-parent unions.
- Demo mode: the message when opening a file from a previous version could suggest that it could no longer be opened in the old version. The new message is more explicite.
- Witness creation window: after entering letters in the Surname field to filter the list and selecting a person from the list, the Surname index was incorrectly populated by this entry.
- Search Tracking: percentage of progress doubled.
- Subdivision input: the Complete/Replace buttons did not update coordinates for some cities.
- Charts: on Monterey, editing a box (context menu > Edit box) didn’t work and blocked Heredis.
- Personal Data tab – Personal display mode – Additional info option unchecked: the button for adding a flag to an event did not work and navigated to the Search info tab.
- Family Group Data – Children: Childless, Unmarried and Secondary buttons were not displayed anymore.
- Family Group Data – Children: bed numbers were not displayed anymore.
- Entering a new place was no longer pre-filled.

Interesting to see that version 3 is now available in the App store.
Bought a copy of Heredis Mac X.2 in 2006 for $69
Version 2 arrived June 2012, special price $59
Version 2.2 arrived in the AppStore July 2013 $10 (iirc)
Now Heredis 2014 (version 3) for $30 (50% off they say).
Mmm. Shall I upgrade or not? I'm rather fed up with having to keep paying for it:-(

So far so good! Really nice that the iPhone app (which syncs) is free, and the Mac version has a demo, so I can test everything out before buying.
What I like so far about Heredis, and what makes it probably the best solution for my anthropological/ethnographic research, is that it makes it easy to create what it calls "sundry links" between any two people, regardless of their biological relationship. This is essential for the incorporation of ethnographic data from non-Western societies, and I didn't find an easy way to do it in the two main competing products.

I have been satisfied with Heredis for years. Recently I decided to upgrade, but Digibuy does not recognise my input code (although they have my receipt details) and want to charge me VAT, although I live in a non-VAT area of Europe. Their replies are useless.
