BoXiKoN overview

BoXiKoN is a fun and addictive puzzle game of strategy and logic. The game belongs to the Action Puzzle genre but BoXiKoN really is quite different. There is a large emphasis on planning, organization and selection and less on arcade style quick reactions.

There are 15 levels and more than 60 shapes of increasing complexity with which the player is free to position anywhere in game grid. This offers more freedom for creative logic and strategic foresight than the usual falling shapes style puzzle games.

What’s new in version 2.1.8

Version 2.1.8:
  • Fixed a full-screen switch problem.
  • Fixed some file/score/state saving issues.
  • Fixed some text display problems, on name entry and other places.
  • Removed some Debug/Console logging code.

I wanted to leave a comment on the forums but I am unable to register. It's been over a week and I have not gotten any response to activate my account, despite multiple emails to the developer. I wanted to ask why the sound effects for removing rows or 4x4 boxes were removed from the game? In this new version the blocks disappear silently. I think that was a bad decision and I'd like to ask the developers to consider putting those sounds effects back in.

_ Installed the latest on my new Mac Pro under 10.4.8. During the trial i'm getting sound problems. Often when placing a piece, i get a sort of click, instead of the proper "klonk" sound.

Sorry for the late replies to some of these messages, I don't read MacUpdate too frequently. We had a nightmare with email Spam/Junk filtering with mail going to or from us. It got so bad that we decided to setup a support forum on our website so anyone who's having trouble getting help/advice/support can contact us that way (with public topic or private message.) You'll always get a quick reply I assure you. You'll find most of the bugs/problems reported here have been resolved in recent updates, particularly with the latest Universal Binary version. We'd also like to welcome discussion of any other problems on our forum where they can be discussed at length and quickly resolved where possible. We use a 60 minute demo period which is an industry standard across the majority of casual game developers/portals. And finally, I'm always happy to see people giving such glowing reviews as Elizabeth. I assure you we don't pay her :) Maybe Elizabeth would like to join our forum too! I can see why people might complain on these feedback things but it's good to see some good feedback also.

I forgot to mention that minor bug(?) i've noted in the past in more than one Shoecake game does not seem to have been corrected in recent versions. Occasionally when a piece is clicked (chosen from the bottom) and rapidly dragged onto the board, either the mouse button is detected late as having been released, or mistakenly as having been pressed again. If the piece is overlapping another, there is not a problem. Otherwise, the piece winds up being placed wherever it happens to be. I and others have noted this behavior through many mice and many versions.

This is a pretty good concept and an enjoyable game. It does have what i consider to be a couple of design flaws, that should have been overcome by adding an element or 2. First of all, the more and more difficult pieces to place begin appearing relatively late in the game when places to put them are also more unlikely which tends to make for an eventual plateau in the reaching of higher scores. The second and more notable annoyance in game structure is that once there are no more boxes for new pieces to appear, and none of the pieces in the boxes or "in hand" can fit on the board, there is often significant time left during which the player has no way to recover and nothing to do but wait several seconds anticipating his demise. The game should either end when it's obvious there are no more possible moves, or perhaps provide a limited number of chances to somehow recover. I downloaded MacBoXiKon after playing a full version on someone else's system. I see that Shoecake has gotten rather stingy with trial periods on their games these days, as well, and aren't the most accomodating folks to deal with.
