Xbench overview
Xbench was developed in response to the lack of convenient benchmarking tools on Mac OS X. It provides a range of useful tests, and is constantly being improved to offer accurate results that can be compared between different Macs
What’s new in version 1.3
Version 1.3:
- Corrected a mistake that caused the altivec test to be turned off on PowerPC machines
- Turned off coalesced graphics updates for all platforms on Mac OS 10.4.4 and higher
- Switched compiler to GCC 4.0 on PowerPC. This provides some boost to floating point and AltiVec scores, and these have been recalibrated accordingly. This also raises Xbench's system requirements to 10.3.9 or higher.
- Revised machine database to include the MacBook, Intel iMac and several other models
- Added code to dynamically load machine database on launch from the Xbench website
- Added support for temporarily turning off beam sync on Tiger while running graphics tests
- Fixed an issue that causes Xbench to fail to launch on Leopard
- Built with Xcode 2.4

Looong overdue for an update. The latest officially recognized system is the Core 2 Duo. The thread test must be disabled to prevent freezing. Practically abandonware. Places too much weight on the speed of the storage media. NOT cross platform compatable
If all other tests are disabled it makes a handy tool for comparing storage media and interfaces. Extensive db for comparing results with other systems.

I really like this app. I have been using it on all my Macs over the years and it can really give great insights on how your machine is performing. I really hope the developer fixes it so we can use it in Lion. PLEASE *-) I think there are many of us.

Works well with 10.6, but doesn't work with OSX 10.7 (Golden Master)

These days, Geekbench seems to be the better tool (it's still updated and is a better indicator of modern Mac and Mac OS X performance).
The only thing Geekbench is missing is a hard drive benchmarking feature. Xbench has this.
