AIKOUSHA Worked effectively until the new update, now all but straight .mov and .mp4 files crash out QT. No exceptions. Don't know what happened, but it's bad on my system. I was hoping the new version would fix the dozen or so matroska and subtitle issues (subtitle size, turning on/off, selecting stream, loading externals to more than just .avis, new audio types, etc.). But, no luck. Now trying to find my copy of 1.1.4. Anxiously waiting for 1.2.1. (Version 1.2)

CHRISTOPHER FORSYTHE It'd be good if you reported this to us via the normal channels and not just a comment on a macupdate posting. (Version 1.2)

TDU Having the same issues mentioned in your first paragraph. (Version 1.2)

KOIBITO-SAN I tried, but after spending 20 minutes looking through "the normal channels," I still couldn't find a place for bug reporting. I know such a place existed before, as I posted to it on a previous version. But, when I had this issue, such a place could not be navigated to. (Version 1.2)

ROBBNASHVILLE I have always liked what Perian does. However, after installing the latest update I experienced a problem with some videos playing in QuickTime X in Snow Leopard. Basically I process recorded TV shows with Elgato's Turbo.264 HD to make AppleTV files. I then edit the commercials out in MPEG Streamclip and save them. This process has worked flawlessly for me for a long time. Today the videos I did would not play in QuickTime X, even though they would play in QuickTime 7 & other players. I decided to remove Perian and repeat the process with the video. After removing Perian, the resulting edited video played fine in QuickTime X as it always has. Anyone else notice anything like this? I hear the developers are very few, and battling the "hidden API" of snow leopards QT-X as well. I don't really care for the technical details on how it works in SL, but it does. Just like ffdshow in windows (or ubuntu-restricted-extras in ubuntu linux), you free us from all these pesky codec packs. Audio normalizing, subtitle loading, a nice minimalistic preference pane - what can i say? That's just bloody excellent. Personally i haven't had any problems at all. Keep up the good work. Though I would understand why you'd prefer to play MKVs in VLC (better controls, better performance, seeking improved) (Version 1.2)

ARCHIVEMAC Works great and is very useful with Leopard. On Snow Leopard, it seems to have lots of problems as reported in Perian support forum. Most troubling, the forum moderator locked the thread reporting Snow Leopard problems. They do not appear interested in fixing the problems and do not want to hear about them. Problems in Snow Leopard include: - Some video types will play with audio but no video - Some video types will play but very poorly with jumpy video, possibly slow framerate. - Integration with Frontrow in particular has issues. - Some video file types cannot be handled directly by QuickTime10. Additional programs are needed as a bridge so that they can handle the file type and pass it to Quicktime with Perian to play. The end result is that Perian is currently much less useful on Snow Leopard until or if they can fix these problems. Hard to see how anything will be fixed if they don't want to hear about the issues. I do not know if installing Quicktime 7 solves any of these issues. (Version 1.1.4)

THREEDEE912 It appears they locked the topic with 10.6 issues because they are already a known problem and users kept posting the same thing over and over again. They also noted most of the issues should be fixed in the next update. (Version 1.2)

GREGMLR All you hear around cyberspace is how Perian is so fantastic, yet I'm yet to be able to get it to work on my Mac. It states it supports DivX encoded files but I am unable to open them without installing the actual DivX codec from divx.com, after that there are no issues. I've also not noticed any additional playback capabilities as a result of installing Perian without having to download the individual codecs from their respective developers. Seriously, don't waste your time. (Version 1.1.4)

4QVS Only because there is sth wrong on your system does not mean the PERIAN QT plug-in is so bad as you write here. I could trash almost all other plug-ins and it even works with QuickTime Pro (v 7). PMG5 D2GHz, MacOSX 10.5.8 (Version 1.1.4)

ROBOTANK You must have done something wrong or be having an issue specific to your system. I've been using Perian for years, and it has always worked precisely as advertised. Don't post a one-star review because you're having an issue. Try to get it solved first. (Version 1.1.4)

JFFS Snow Leopard and movies containing AC3 audio. If you can't get Quicktime X to open a file with AC3 audio, you need to use Command+I to set Quicktime X to open in 32-bit mode. If you don't the AC3 and A52 components included in Perian will not work. Hopefully there will be a 64-bit version of the AC3 components/Perian soon. (Version 1.1.4)
