(Try some practice runs with it to get a feel for how it works. It is fast in its processing.)
The time that you enter for splitting point (hh:mm:ss) -- in the "Split Position" Edit button -- results in the split taking place about a second or so before the time you entered (depends on complexity of video at that point). Keep this in mind, it may take a try or two for you to get exactly the spot you want it to cut.
The preview feature it has is useful, though likewise, it may show screen image of a second or so after where split actually takes place. (Version 1.3)
DAYOS_X Works. No idea why it shouldn't for others. But then again, ffmpegX (running on the same mencoder) works just the same. So I don't see why we need a standalone AVI cutter. But since the author took the trouble, why not implement a preview window that cuts the AVI file by the exact frame, and not just by the second. (Version 1.3)
ANONYMOUS doesn't work. It would be great if it does because there isn't anything out that does what this promises, but..this doesn't work (Version 1.3)
CONFUSED i tried splitting a movie file (.avi, mpg4 video compression, MP3 audio compression). The program thought my 1.35Gb file was 0 seconds in length and wouldn't let be create split point anything over 0 seconds. it created a 12Kb file and a 1.35Gb file. it doesn't seem to work but maybe i'm doin sumthin wrong. anyone got any ideas? (Version 1.3)
PASCAL This app works fantastically. I had previously been using mencoder on the command line to split avi's but this is far more convenient. It's also the only app of it's kind i've tried that actually works!
A quick note for improvement however: It would be very useful to be able to set the split point in MB rather than time, i.e. to make splitting movies for specific media sizes easier.
ANONYMOUS First look if the file shows time when you add it to be split. If it dose not, leave everything at "00" and click on the split button, discard the first file and use the second (Version 1.3)
